MEEKER I This year Run for Your Life race participants will have a new course route to mix up the 36-year-old July 4 event in Meeker.
The Herald Times was the original race sponsor, followed by the fire department, Meeker High School’s cross-country team and the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District.
Participants can choose to walk or run the 5K (slightly more than 3 miles) course. There is a 1.5 hour time limit for both races. The race begins at the courthouse at 7:30 a.m. for the runners and 8:00 a.m. for the walking race.
Register for the event at the Meeker Rec Center until close of business on July 3 at the early bird rate of $15. Registration the morning of July 4 from 6-7 a.m. at the registration tent on the courthouse lawn is $20. All participants will receive a T-shirt at the time of registration, and must pick up their bib numbers July 4 at the registration tent by 7 a.m. for runners and by 7:30 for walkers. Leftover T-shirts will be sold for $15 from 12–3 p.m. at the Main Street Madness 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on July 4.

In 2014, there were 147 runners and 127 walkers in the race. Kim Davis was the overall winner of the women’s running race, crossing the finish line in 21:11.
William Scoggins won the men’s run with a time of 18:10. Piper Haney won the women’s walking race with a finish time of 36:35 and Drew Hanks won the men’s walking division in 38:10.
