Rangely Arts Council presents special Valentine’s concert
RANGELY — You are invited to spend part of your romantic evening with us at the Rangely High School auditorium enjoying the enchanting music of the group Bond. The lovely ladies that comprise this classic string quartet play in fusion with new age musicians to produce one of the most unique styles of music ever. The show will commence Thursday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. and will last about an hour. A special door prize will be given to the first 20 couples that arrive.
Oil shale open house Feb. 14
MEEKER — The Bureau of Land Management has scheduled an open house public meeting to provide information on the Draft Resource Management Plan amendments and Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (Draft PEIS) for oil shale and tar sands resources in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming.
The open house in Meeker will be held Feb. 14 (not Feb. 1, as incorrectly published in the Herald Times), in the community room in Mountain Valley Bank, 400 Main St., from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

chronicle Native American life
MEEKER — Colorado Northwestern Community College and the Smoking River Pow Wow Committee are sponsoring a community education seminar on Native American life: past, present and future, on Saturday, March 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Register now for this interesting opportunity to learn more about the lives of Native Americans from Mary Lee Longhair as she shares insights about their ceremonies, customs and beliefs. Church sponsors dessert and dance
MEEKER — There will be a Valentine’s Dessert and Dance Night Feb. 16, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 903 Third St. The good times will begin at 7 p.m. Please bring your favorite dessert. Babysitting services will be provided if you can’t find someone to tend your little ones.
Hunter safety class
MEEKER — Hunter safety class for ages 10 years and older will be Tuesday, Feb. 19; Thursday, Feb. 21; and Friday, Feb. 22, 6-10 p.m. at the Mountain Valley Bank community room in Meeker. The class satisfies Colorado hunter safety requirements. Contact Steve Balloga, senior DOW instructor, 878-0145.
Foot clinic will be held Feb. 26
MEEKER — Pioneers Medical Center Home Health will be offering its monthly foot clinic Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 10-11 a.m. at the Pines Apartments at 875 Water St. A registered nurse and a certified nurse assistant will trim toenails, assess circulation, give skin care and check blood pressures. Persons found to have circulatory or foot problems will be referred to a physician. Please call 878-9265 to schedule an appointment.
“Home of” 411
MEEKER — Meekerites Bill and Voni Stewart are this week’s “home of honorees.” Bill is a Meeker native. His parents are Nellie and the late Stanley Stewart. Voni has lived here 42 years. Voni’s parents, Ben and Connie Gianinetti, are deceased.
Bill is the ranch manager for Yellow Jacket Ranch. Voni is Pioneers Medical Center’s material management director.
The Stewarts have four children, six grandchildren and two grandchildren on the way. Daughter Tosha, her husband Zach Clatterbaugh and their three children live in Kemmerer, Wyo. Son Brandan Stewart and his wife Erica of Meeker have two children and are expecting a third in May. Daughter Robynn and husband Greg Osborne live in Greensboro, N.C. Robynn and Greg have one child, soon to be two in April. Daughter Miranda Stewart and child are in Cheyenne, Wyo.
In their spare time, Bill enjoys guiding and outfitting with his son’s business and Voni enjoys quilting.
When asked what she likes most about Meeker, Voni replied, “Family and friends.”
