Senator Salazar in Meeker March 18
MEEKER — U.S. Senator Ken Salazar will be in Meeker Tuesday, March 18 from 2-3 p.m. at Kilowatt Korner to discuss energy issues in Northwest Colorado. The public is invited to attend.

SHARE menus available at chamber
MEEKER — SHARE Colorado, a nonprofit organization, is a monthly food distributor that offers grocery packages at half the retail price to everyone.
To order from SHARE’s March menu please visit Meeker SHARE located at the Chamber of Commerce or call (970) 878-5510. March’s order pick-up date will be March 29 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at Ninth and Park at the Holy Family Catholic Church.

Airgas “Old School” Chopper built by OCC to visit Craig
CRAIG — The Airgas “Old School” Chopper, designed and built by Orange County Choppers (OCC) using Airgas gases and hardgoods, will be on display at the Holiday Inn on March 13 from 3-8 p.m. The customized motorcycle is one of two touring the nation to help mark Airgas’ nearly quarter of a century of growth.
Refreshments will be provided. Pictures with the chopper and other items can be purchased and 100 percent of the proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Community invited to Rangely HRC meeting
RANGELY — The Rangely Human Resource Council will be meeting Thursday, March 13 at noon in the county conference room at Rangely Town Hall.

AARP Driver’s Safety course starts
March 17
MEEKER — The AARP Driver’s Safety program will be held March 17-18 from 1-5 p.m. at the Senior Center in the Fairfield Center.
The program consists of eight hours classroom instruction and discussion (no driving, no tests) for motorists 50 and over.
A small fee is charged. Those completing the course will qualify for a discount on their auto insurance.
Classroom space is limited. For more information and to sign up for the class call Charlotte White at 878-5676.

No slowdown in drilling in region
RBC — There were a record 6,368 drilling permits approved in Colorado last year, up 8 percent from 2006. So far this year, oil and gas drilling permit applications in the state are up 50 percent from the same period in 2007, according to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel. Through Feb. 25, 418 of the 946 drilling permits approved statewide were for wells in Garfield County, with 54 in Rio Blanco County and 40 in Mesa County.

“Home of” 411
MEEKER — Long-time Meeker residents Charlie and Gail Frantz are this week’s “home of” honorees. Charlie moved here in 1962 when he was 7 years old. Gail is a native. Charlie’s parents are Shorty and the late Lois Frantz. Gail’s parents are Red and the late Mary Gulliford.
The couple celebrated their silver (25th) wedding anniversary in October.
Charlie is the landfill operator for Rio Blanco County. Gail is the Meeker Sanitation District’s office manager.
They have two children. Their daughter Krystle Dunton and her husband Adrian of Meeker are expecting their first child anyday, making Charlie and Gail first-time grandparents. Son Jake Frantz is a student at Colorado Mountain College in Leadville.
In their spare time, they like to rock hound, hunt, fish, hike, camp and enjoy the outdoors.
When asked what she likes most about Meeker, Gail answered, “I like the small town community.”
