MEEKER I No one will get dunked during the Range Call celebration this year but the dunk tank should be the only thing missing, as organizations like the Meeker Chamber of Commerce, The Rio Blanco Historical Society and the local Masons Lodge will make sure downtown visitors have plenty to see, do and eat during Meeker’s Fourth of July weekend.
Brown’s Carnival has returned to Meeker and will open its rides and games at 4 p.m. Friday and continuing through Monday, July 4.
The Meeker Chamber of Commerce has arranged for live music on the courthouse lawn three days in a row. The entertainment begins Saturday at 11 a.m. with Coy Keithley and Straight Shot. More than 20 vendors will provide goods and services, ranging from tacos and roping dummies to massages and a batting cage. The Meeker chamber will also host the first annual Main Street Madness three-on-three basketball tournament at the old elementary school. And don’t miss the chamber-sponsored watermelon-eating contest July 4, a treat for contestants and spectators alike.
On July 2 at 2 p.m. the Rio Blanco County Historical Society will perform a reenactment of the bank robbery at the intersection of Main and Sixth streets and sell root beer floats afterward.
The celebration on the Fourth of July will begin downtown with the annual Run for Your Life 5K walk/run race, sponsored by the ERBM Recreation and Parks District, with assistance from the Meeker High School cross country team. Registration opens at 6:30 a.m., with the running race starting at 7:30 a.m., followed by the start of the walking race at 8 a.m.
The Meeker Masonic Lodge will start serving a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. on July 4, followed by the parade, starting at 10 a.m., with a barbecue to follow on the courthouse lawn.
