Some Meeker residents expressed dismay upon finding a “do not play” sign on the fence at the administration building playground. While replacing the fall-protection material, school and rec district workers discovered the wooden support structures under the playground equipment were rotted below ground. “We felt the equipment was unsafe and should therefore be removed,” Selle said. There are no plans in place to install a new play structure at the site. “While I understand that is disappointing for families in our community, as that playground was the only one in town with shade over the play structures, the risk of a child being injured by unsafe equipment was too great to keep the equipment in place. New playground equipment is being installed at the elementary school. That play area will be open to the public during non-school hours.”
