Non-profits abound

MEEKER I This year’s Mountain Valley Bank Fall Festival participants are PTO, WCDC, MACC, Barone Student Council, 4-H Council, Jr. Wildlife Officer’s 4-H Club, White River Livestock, FFA Judging — Louisville Trip, White River Judging, Girl Scouts, New Eden Pregnancy Center, Rio Blanco County Historical Society, Meeker Education Foundation, New Creation Church, Hope — West Meeker, Mind Springs Health, Destination Imagination, VFW and Ladies Auxilliary and FCCLA. Come out and support these non-profit organizations.
While at the Fall Festival, you can enjoy a variety of prepared goodies. Among the many epicurian delights are turkey legs, pork shanks, brisket, hamburgers, hot dogs on a stick, sloppy joes, green chili burritos, bake sale, root beer floats, corn on the cob, snow cones, popcorn, cupcake walk, fruit kabobs, baked potatoes, cotton candy, lemonade and soda.
Some of the activities which will be featured during the Fall Festival are face painting, Henna tattoos, jailhouse, volleyball hula, ping pong, bottle ring toss, bean bag toss, bounce house, golf, cowpie bingo, bowling, archery and basketball.
In addition to the great food, beverage and other booths at the Meeker Fall Festival on Saturday, there will be pie, salsa and jam/jelly contests along with an auction.
The public is invited to enter several categories of each with all proceeds from the auction and tasting sales to benefit Meals on Wheels in Meeker.
The event is sponsored by the Main Street Building and cash prizes include $50 for blue ribbon pie, $25 for red ribbon pie, $25 for best Fall Festival pie and $25 for best fruit pie.
Blue ribbon jam/jelly will pay $25, red ribbon jam/jelly will pay off $25, best salsa will pay off $20 and the hottest salsa will pay off $20 to the maker.
Rules for the pies include: Bring in two pies by 10 a.m. One will be tasted and judged and both will be auctioned off with the proceeds benefitting Meals On Wheels. The pie tins, salsa container and jelly/jam jars will not be returned. The prizes and pick-up should be completed by 12:30 p.m.
Rules for the salsa include one container of salsa for judging that must be turned in by 10 a.m.
For the jams/jellies, bring two containers of the jam or jelly by 10 a.m. for judging and auction. Again, the proceeds will help Meal on Wheels.
Visitors are asked to stop by the tent afters the contests. The salsa, pie and jam/jelly samples will be shared for $1 each.
