Betty Jo Adkins Tuttle, 78, passed away at her son’s home in Bountiful, Utah, surrounded by family and loved ones, on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, after a four-month battle with brain cancer.
Betty was born on Feb. 24, 1930, in Raceland, Ky., to William Edward and Pearl Brown Adkins.
She attended Raceland Independent Schools graduating as class valedictorian in 1948. In 1952 she graduated from Western Kentucky State College as a home economics teacher. In 1971, while raising four children she received her master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati.
She was united in marriage to William A. Tuttle on Aug. 2, 1952, in Raceland, Ky. Later, the marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She taught school in Raceland, Ky.; Cincinnati, Ohio; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Rangely, Colo. One of her greatest joys was teaching her granddaughters and other dear friends how to sew and cook and delighted in sharing her recipes with others. She was happiest when sharing her talents and skills.
She has touched many lives by kindly and patiently leading those who wanted to improve their homemaking abilities. Everyone who knew Betty loved her. She was knowledgeable in many areas and always helped people in their particular need.
After retiring from teaching she and her husband had the privilege of serving a mission in Scotland and London, England for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She was active in her church serving as Relief Society president, Young Women’s president, primary teacher and prior to her illness, an ordinance worker in the Vernal Temple.
She is survived by her husband, Bill, two sons — Roger Tuttle of Bountiful, Utah, and Jim Tuttle of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters — Christie Tuttle of San Diego, Calif., and Donna Gohr of Rangely, Colo., a brother, Gene Adkins of Ashland, Ky., and six grandchildren and their spouses.
Preceding her in death are: her parents, her sister, Helen Adkins Justice and brothers Harold, Morris and Larry. She was also preceded in death by her toddler son, William Christopher.
Memorial services will be held at the LDS Church in Rangely, Colo., at 1 p.m., Sat-urday, Jan. 3.
Betty’s final resting place will be in the family plot in the Ashland Cemetery, Ashland, Ky.
She was loved by all, especially her grandchildren and will be greatly missed.
