Betty Jo Wood Vandever, 86 of Arkansas City, Kan., died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at the Medicalodge in Arkansas City.
Graveside services were Friday, Jan. 8 at the Riverview Cemetery in Arkansas City. The family received friends on Jan. 7 at the funeral home.
Betty was born Dec. 26, 1923, to James Ferguson and Nancy (Sawyer) Ferguson in Shawnee, Okla. She moved to Dardanelle, Ark., where she met and married Ezra Wood on July 2, 1938, and the couple had five children. On April 6, 1973, she married Kenny Vandever in Wichita, Kan., and the couple made their home in Arkansas City. Betty worked for Rodeo Meats and also Harvey’s Fashions. She was a member of the Central Christian Church.
Betty is survived by her husband, Kenny Vandever, of the home; children, Herman and Sandy Wood of Oklahoma City, Carol and Ron Maddy of Wichita, Cheryl and Larry Steiner of Meeker, Colo., Kenneth Wood of Los Angeles, and Connie and Dennis Barnett of Moore, Okla.; stepchildren, Val and Terry Jacobs , Garrett and Sondra Vandever all of Arkansas City; sister Lennie Harmon of Weatherford, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Nancy Beck and grandchildren Mitchell and Michael Wood.
