Bobby E. Pilkington
Dec. 27, 1937~Nov. 3, 2010
Bobby (Bob) E. Pilkington passed away on Nov. 3, 2010, after a long, hard battle with lung disease. He was 72.
Bob was born in Scottsbluff, Neb., on Dec. 27, 1937. He was the seventh of the eventual nine children of Jess and Onner Pilkington. He spent his early years in Scottsbluff before the family moved to Meeker, where his parents had purchased the Meeker Bakery. Bob was graduated from Meeker High School in 1955 where he excelled in football, track and basketball. After graduation he served in the Army for two years, then attended Mesa State in Grand Junction, where he met his future wife, Sandra. They married in 1963 and moved to Gunnison where he received his degree in biology and earned a teaching certificate. Bob taught science at Carbondale High School for three years while also coaching football and basketball. While in Carbondale, he and Sandra had two children, Tim and Jillene.
The family moved to Boulder/Longmont in 1970 where Bob would work at STC until 1988. He then went to work with the Forest Service doing what his heart was meant to do; roaming around the flat tops in Western Colorado atop a horse. He retired in Atwood, Kan., and later moved back to Scottsbluff. He is survived by his children Tim Pilkington of Scottsbluff, Jillene Toth of Severance, his former wife Sandra Pilkington and five grandchildren. Services were held at the Rio Blanco Funeral Home in Meeker on Monday, Nov. 8.
