Buddy L. Mays, 69, passed away May 4, 2011, in Pueblo, Colo., after a brief illness.He was born in Eads, Colo., on April 25, 1942, the son of Zelda and Willie Mays.Buddy attended and was graduated from Eads High School in 1962.After graduating he worked for a time as a race horse trainer and then was employed by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) for 25 years, beginning in Hugo Colo., then transferring to Rangely, Colo., where he resided before moving to Trinidad, Colo., in 2003.He loved to play golf, bowl, play cards and was a sports fanatic.Buddy loved talking about weather and was affectionately known as “Weatherman Bud.”The greatest joy and love of his life were his grandchildren.Preceding him in death are his parents, Zelda and Willie Mays, and brothers Duane and Billy Joe Mays.Survivors are children Zaneta (Lance) Brady, Trinidad, Colo., Crissy (Travis) Pogline, Colorado Springs, Colo., Darrin (Legena) Mays, Rangely, Colo., Lance Mays, Rangely, Colo.; grandchildren Jordan Brady, Bridget Mays, Ashton Brady, Corbin Mays, Dillion Burch, Brynlei Mays, Clarence Hamilton, Vanessa Hamilton; brothers and sister Bob (Dee) Mays, Simla, Colo., Rosie Bowman, Ulysses, Kans., Leo (Doris) Mays, Wichita, Kan., Leroy Mays, Pueblo West, Colo.; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at the First Christian Church, with Pastor Cary Nelson officiating.Private inurnment will follow at a later date.Arrangements made under the direction of the Comi Funeral Home.
