Carl Bernard (Bernie) Nieslanik
June 1, 1924-Aug. 18, 2008
Bernie Nieslanik, 84, of Haugan Mont., (previously of Meeker, Colo.) died peacefully at home, of natural causes on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Bernie was born on June 1, 1924, to John and Mary Nieslanik, in Sheridan, Wyo. The family moved to Spring Valley (Glenwood Springs) Colorado in November 1929. Bernie married Margaret Wilson of Glenwood Springs on Nov. 20, 1948. Bernie is the father of eight children: Mike (Carol) Nieslanik of Canon City, Colo., Cindy (Steve) Swartzendruber of Paonia, Colo., Steve (Lisa) Nieslanik of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Rick (Crystal) Nieslanik of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Bert Nieslanik of Grand Junction, Colo., Frank (Leta) Nieslanik of Grand Junction, Colo., Mary (Mike) McPhee of Fort Collins, Colo., Joe (Ellen) Nieslanik of Meeker, Colo.
Bernie was proceeded in death by his wife Margaret on June 3, 1967.
Bernie married Lucile Snyder Downing in June 12, 1971. Lucile had seven children: Zoe Ann (Ron) King, Luke (Sherry) Downing, Tom Downing of Helena, Mont., Zona (Ron) Junker, of Coeur d Alene, Idaho, Zella (Rowan) Horrell of Riverdake, New Zealand, Zeta Johnson of Arlee, Mont. Proceeded in death by EJ Downing.
Bernie was the owner of Bernie’s Super 8 Market in Meeker, Colo., before purchasing the Broken Heart Guest Ranch in Haugan, Mont., in 1976
Bernie is survived by five brothers and six sisters: Betty Ribant of Detroit, Mich., Bernice (Bob) Kennedy of Phoenix, Ariz., Adeline Coryell of Rifle, Colo., Katheren (Emmett) Smith of Glenwood, Colo., Dorothy Linnebur of Roggen, Colo., John (Theresa), Paul (Celia), and Bob, of Carbondale, Colo., Jim (Sharon) of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Raymond (Elaine) of Yuma, Colo., and Francis Mattivi of Colorado Springs, Colo.
A memorial service is planned at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Glenwood at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Church Street Station, P.O. Box 780 New York, N.Y., 10008-0780.
