Charles William ‘Bill’ Grove

Memorial services for longtime Cortez, Colo., resident Charles William “Bill” Grove were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Empire Chapel.
Bill was born Nov. 19, 1938, in Denver, Colo., the son of Ralph William and Florence (Jones) Grove. He passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Valley Inn Nursing Home at the age of 77.
Bill attended Rio Blanco High School in Meeker, Colo. He then went on to college at Colorado State University and Chadron State College. He married June Vaughn on March 22, 1968, in Silverton, Colo. Bill began his career with the Bureau of Reclamation in 1963. He was instrumental in water projects in North Dakota, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. Bill was passionate about wrestling and he coached the Cortez Wrestling Club for many years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, cowboying, riding horses and fly fishing. He was an accomplished fly tier and he enjoyed attending rodeos and wrestling trips.
Surviving Bill are his loving wife of 48 years, June Grove of Cortez; his children, Shelley Christiansen (John) of Lemoyne, Neb., Kevin Grove of Pinedale, Wyo., Brian Grove (Colleen) of Crawford, Neb., Ginnie Swanson of Washburn, N.D., Roger Grove (Sue Fittanto) of New Castle, Colo., Bill Grove (Dianna) of Westminster, Colo., and Jim Bob Grove (April) of Dolores; 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and by his sister, Carol (Grove) Jones (Jerry Igard) of Tucson, Ariz. Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
