Charlie Walsh
Feb. 19, 1931 ~ April 24, 2008
Charlie L. Walsh, 77, of Meeker, died April 24, 2008, at the Walbridge Memorial Wing.
Charles Lawrence Walsh was born Feb. 19, 1931, in Salida, Colo., the son of Lawrence Michael and Ethel (Patton) Walsh. He attended schools in Salida and Leadville, where his mother was his teacher. Following his graduation, he attended Colorado A&M (CSU) where he was on the college ski jumping team and received his bachelor’s degree in animal husbandry. He also spent time bareback riding in rodeos as a young man.
Charlie married his childhood sweetheart, Beverly J. Castor, in December 1952. They began their life farming in Salida, later buying a dairy farm in Littleton.
In the early 1960s they moved to Brighton where they established a family farm, raising hogs and various crops. While raising hogs Charlie served as president of the Colorado Pork Producers and the Pure Bred Swine Breeders Association and he and his children were very active in 4-H.
“Charlie loved the outdoors and spent as much time hunting in and around Leadville, fishing and skiing as possible. In 2001, he moved to Meeker to be nearer his sons, settling into a life of retirement, returning to his beloved mountains and finding many friends along the way. He loved helping his son Pat and family operate the Rim Rock Campground, and was a devout member of Holy Family Church.”
Survivors include three children: Pat Walsh and his wife Marti and Tom Walsh and his wife Lisa, both of Meeker, Chloanna Schwab and her husband Warren of Holly, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Charlie is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; one daughter, Shelly; and his parents.
Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, April 28 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Friends may make memorial contributions to Holy Family Catholic Church through Cochran Memorial Chapel which was entrusted with the arrangements.
