Obituary: Clarence W. Davis

Clarence William Davis was born Feb. 9, 1932, to Johnny Ceicle and Reba Faye (Green) Davis in Meeker.
Clarence spent his childhood in Meeker and attended school there through the 12th grade.
He then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He met Ruth Ernestine Smith and they were married on Sept. 15, 1956, in Craig.
To this union, four children were born, John, Elizabeth, Gale and Nick.
Clarence worked for the Colorado State Highway Department on the road maintenance crew. In 1970, the family moved to Avon until 1975, then moved to Craig, where they made their home for the last 30 years. Clarence loved to hunt, fish and camp. He truly loved the outdoors. He had a passion for woodworking, Clarence was well known for the log cabin-looking bird feeders that he would build and are all around Craig.
Clarence was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Meeker.
He is survived by his wife Ruth, of 53 years, four children Gale (Bill) Hackett, Lochbuie; sons John (Laurisa) Davis, Rifle; Nick (Lori) Davis, Craig; Elizabeth (Alan) Keller, Craig; grandchildren Angel, Melissa, Charlie, Nicklis, Felicia, John William, Reba, Margie and William, sister Johnnie C. Coleman, Yuma, Ariz.; and brother Wallace Jackson, Grand Junction.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at Grant Mortuary Chapel with Mervin Johnson officiating. Musical selections were “Amazing Grace,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art.” Interment followed in Highland Cemetery in Meeker, with military honors performed by VFW Post 5843.
