Longtime Meeker resident Cleo Jordan, 99, passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at the Walbridge Memorial Wing.
Cleo Crawford was born Dec. 30, 1908, in Houston, Mo., the daughter of John and Allie (Hutchinson) Crawford. She was raised in rural Missouri and as a very young girl was preceded in death by her mother. In 1935 she began working at the Rio Blanco Ranch up river. She caught the eye of Harry Jordan and the two drove to the Rio Blanco County courthouse where they were united in marriage Oct. 24, 1936, returning to the ranch to work when Mr. Wix had finished their ceremony.
A devoted member of the Meeker Methodist Church, Cleo was a fabulous cook, renowned for her pies, rolls and cookies. She loved being busy and on the go all the time, raising a large garden until well into her 90s.
Cleo was a longtime member of Meeker Chapter No. 100, OES, was a member of the Buford Community Club as well as the Rio Blanco County Cattlewomen and the Rio Blanco County Historical Society.
Survivors include her son Bill and his wife Debbie of Meeker; her granddaughter Denise Taylor and her husband Kevin of Denver; her special friend Elaine Jordan as well as two sisters, Von Card of Las Vegas, Nev., and Treva West of Houston, Mo.
In addition to her parents, Cleo is preceded in death by her husband, Harry, one daughter Bonnie and her sister Mildred.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 from the Meeker Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to either the Meeker Methodist Church or the Buford Community Club through Cochran Memorial Chapel which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
