Obituary: Dana Elizabeth Uncapher

Dana Elizabeth Uncapher
June 21, 1930~Feb. 24, 2009
Dana Elizabeth Uncapher passed away after a short illness on Feb. 24, 2009. Dana was born Dana Elizabeth Johnson on June 21, 1930, in Denver, Colo., to parents Earl and Neeva Johnson. Dana attended school in Kremmling. She was graduated from Kremmling Union High School in 1948. She then attended Barnes School of Business in Denver before marrying Ed Uncapher in September 1948. Dana worked at many professions during her lifetime, including the Bank of Kremmling, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Breeze Insurance Agency and at least one insurance agency in Meeker. Ed and Kana lived in Kremmling and then in Delta before living on the old Skylark Ranch on the Williams Fork south of Parshall for many years. They then lived on other ranches in the Kremmling area before moving to Meeker in 1967. Upon Ed’s retirement from Rio Blanco County, they moved back to Kremmling, where they lived until Ed passed away in 2001. Dana then moved to Craig to be closer to her sister, Carol Allen.
Dana was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ed, and one son, Wesley Uncapher. She is survived by brother Ed Uncapher of Grand Junction, sister Carol Allen of Craig, son Harry Uncapher of Freeland, Wash., grandson Wes Uncapher of Craig, granddaughter Kammi McClen-den of Gainesville, Ga., granddaughter Rebecca (and Junior) Hadley of Little Rock, Ark., granddaughter Rhonda (and Mike) Shearer of Kremmling, grandson Heath Uncapher of Seattle, Wa., great-grandsons Dakota and John Uncapher of McMinnville, Ore., and Mikayla and Wyatt Shearer of Kremmling, plus several nieces and nephews.
Dana’s special true love was spending time with family. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and the time spent living on various ranches was very special to her. She was extremely excited by her trip with long-time friends Laura Russell and Dick McQueary to Alaska during the summer of 2007. She especially loved going for drives to see the scenery and all the wildlife. She will be fondly remembered as the most loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother (sprinkles Grandma). She will be missed by all who knew her, including many of her co-residents and the staff at Sunset Meadows in Craig. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society through Grant Mortuary in her honor. Services were at Grant Mortuary in Craig at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28., followed by a short graveside service at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 2, in Riverton, Wyo., where she will be put to rest next to her husband Ed and son Wesley.

  • Mormon crickets have hatched near Rangely. They were all sighted on BLM land north of Hwy. 64 near the junction of CR 96 and CR 1, down a dirt road near the Moffat County line. The picture shown was taken yesterday by Mary Meinen from Rangely. She says the crickets are about the size of a ladybug (less than 1/2”). Some of them are actually yellow in color but most of them are darker. They are milling around and getting ready to start moving soon. Note: Photo is not to scale.
Rio Blanco County and the White River and Douglas Creek Conservation Districts are still asking for your help to identify additional hatch-outs of crickets so that control efforts can be put in place. The success of the program will highly depend upon local landowners and the public helping to locate crickets as soon as they hatch.
