Donald G. Jackett passed away in Montrose Memorial Hospital on April 19, 2012 following a brief illness. He was born in Genoa, Colo., on Feb. 19, 1938 to George G. and Elsie I. Fisher Jackett.
He graduated from Genoa High School in 1956 and worked for a short time as a lineman.
In 1960 he began ranching in the Divide Creek area and continued to ranch there for 30 years. At the end of his ranching he sold cars for Roger Fischer, John Haines and finally for Columbine Ford for over 20 years. He was a very reputable car salesman with many clients from all over western Colorado. His success was built on honesty, integrity and respect.
Don was a charter member of the Good Shepard Lutheran Church, a member of Holy Cross Cattleman’s Association, officer of the BPOE Elks 2195 of Rifle and a member of several trap clubs. Don was a member of the Amateur Trap Shooting Association with over 80,000 registered targets. His love for his family, life and the great outdoors was shared with anyone he met. He knew no strangers.
He is survived by his three children: Jim (Cheri) Jackett of Montrose, Julie (Mark) Burner of Rifle and Pam (Jesse) Hutton of Silt; nine grandchildren, Sarah, Ethan, Dustin, Emily, Grace, Courtney, Ty, Chad and Tucker.
Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be spread on a beautiful cowboy morning.
There will be a memorial service at Rocky Mountain Baptist Church at 4199 West Centennial Parkway in Rifle, Colo., with Pastor Jim Sheets officiating on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. with a luncheon immediately following at Saint Mary’s Parish, 790 E. Seventh St., Rifle.
