Duane Vincent Kenney, 74, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and formerly of Rangely and Littleton, Colo., passed away Aug. 29, 2012, at his home. Solace Home Health assisted his family with his care.
He was born May 31, 1938, in Huntington Park, Calif., to Louis Kenney and Anna Lawton Kenney. He grew up in Rangely, Colo., and in 1956 he was graduated from Rangely High School. Duane attended Colorado State University where he studied liberal arts for one and one half years before entering the U.S. Navy. He served with honor for five years and he especially loved serving on the USS George Washington.
Following his discharge from the Navy, he moved to Denver, Colo. Here, he took a job with Honeywell where he worked as an electronic technician for 27 years.
On May 14, 1965, he married Barbara Hanlon in Littleton, Colo. He and Barbara started a horse boarding business in 1979 in Littleton and lived there until moving to Idaho Falls in 2000.
Duane actively served as a member of Berean Baptist Church in Idaho Falls. He volunteered many hours in constructing the church building on First Street in Idaho Falls.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and horses.
Duane was a hard-working, dedicated family man who loved being outdoors hunting (especially elk), fishing and hiking.
He is survived by the following: wife, Barbara Kenney of Idaho Falls; daughters: Kim (Bruce) Rogers of Littleton, Colo.; Debbie (Duane) Phillips of Aurora, Colo.; Julie Bouchier of Fleming, Colo.; son Kevin (Helen) Kenney of Idaho Falls; sisters: Patricia (Russ) Weber of Whitewater, Colo., and Linda Kennedy of Lakewood, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Duane was preceded in death by a sister, Paula.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Coltrin Mortuar in Idaho Falls with Pastor Todd Wood officiating. Burial was in the Iona Cemetery with military rites by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
