Flora Adeline Wittwer was born on April 29, 1928, to Thomas and Ruth Roberts on the homestead in Meeker, Colo. Flora passed away Oct. 26, 2011, surrounded by her family.
She married the love of her life, Chester Ely Wittwer, June 8, 1947, in Glenwood Springs, Colo. Flora had a love of fishing and hiking with her children and grandchildren around Meeker and Silverton. She shared a love of the mountains with Chester. She loved flowers and gardening. Flora loved her church friends and studied the Bible daily. She was a wonderful cook and made the best sweet rolls around. She always had a smile and kind thoughts for everyone. Her family fondly recalls, “Flora loved the Lord with all her heart and she is now in heaven and smiling down on her family and friends.”
Flora Wittwer is survived by her husband Chester, of Durango; children Marlin (Denise) Wittwer of Cortez, Colo., Barbara Hopper of Aurora, Ronald (Christy) Wittwer of Durango; grandchildren Gary (Jodi) Wittwer of Fruita, Colo., Kenneth (Michele) Wittwer of Thornton, Colo., Christine (Donnie) Jacobs of Aurora, Colo., Michelle (Arthur) Hilstrom of Virginia, Jacqualine (Chris) Johnson of Virginia, Shanna Wittwer of Colorado Springs, Colo., Larissa Wittwer of Ohio, Katelynn Wittwer of Sterling, Colo.; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Flora’s sisters Luella Bagley of Idaho, Wenell Boyse of Meeker, Colo., Inez Dowen of Grand Junction, Colo., and Zelma Sperat of Pennsylvania.
Preceding her in death: son-in-law David Hopper, brother Marvin Roberts, brother Edgar Roberts, sister Dorothy Bagley and sister Duron Wyatt.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Hood Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Scott Kujath of Pine Valley Church of the Foursquare Gospel will be officiating. Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango.
