Obituary: Florence ‘Flossy’ Louise Mead Eddy

Flossy was born in Saratoga, Wyo., 79 years ago to Frank and Thumal “Pat” Mead. The family moved to Rangely while she was in her teens, where she met Harold E. Eddy. They married June 6, 1947, in Craig and had five children, residing in Rangely until their retirement in 1984.
Flossy and Harold owned several businesses while in Rangely. Most remember Eddy’s Hotel and Cafe at the east end of Main Street. She was very civic-minded and helped build and promote the Rangely Days Celebration as well as the Rangely Bicentennial Quilt, now in the Rangely Museum. She taught archery at CNCC and had extreme fun doing her radio show. She became an expert at doll-making and oil and china painting, receiving many awards. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She did volunteer work and was a lifelong Christian. She loved doing ceramics and sewing. She loved people.
Flossy will be greatly missed by all and was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and two sisters, Bonnie Burgett and Peggy Wolrod. She is survived by daughters, Sandra Woodard, Nancy (Jim) Eddy-Benson, Patti Eaton, all of Grand Junction and Sherry (Dave) Ertelt of Highlands Ranch, CO; one son, Dan Eddy of Rangely; two brothers, Frankie (Helen) Mead and Robert “Bob” Mead of Anaconda, Mont.; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at Clifton Christian Church on Saturday, June 13 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Flossy’s name to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
