George W. Sutton of Apache Junction, Ariz., passed away at hospice in Mesa, Ariz. on Sept. 3, 2013. His death was due to complications from a brain tumor.
George, 72, was born in Meeker, Colo., to Glen and Doris Sutton. He spent his childhood in Meeker and graduated from Meeker High School in 1959. He was an outstanding basketball player in high school and was a car and motorcycle enthusiast.
George met and married the love of his life, Virginia (Ginger) Baker. They were married Aug. 29, 1960, in Meeker, and they had just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary.
They lived in Grand Junction and George was employed at the Gilsonite plant at Fruita. They later moved to Apache Junction.
George learned to play guitar and sing, and he played in a jam group that performed for people at several recreational vehicle resorts in the Mesa and Apache Junction area.
George is survived by his wife, Ginger in Apache Junction, Ariz.; a son, Mark (Becky) Sutton; a daughter, Lisa Kary; grandchildren Jarrod, Jeremy and Jacob Sutton and Brandon Kary, who all live in Phoenix area.
He is also survived by two brothers, Glen O. Sutton of Vernal, Utah, and Ray Sutton of Fruita, Colo.; and two sisters, Wilma Fowler of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Mary Pilkington of Montrose, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Doris Sutton; and two sisters, Kay Sutton and Colleen (Connie) Greer.
Memorial services are planned for a later date.
