Obituary: Glen Glasgow

Lifelong Meeker resident Glen I. Glasgow, 91, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, after a brief illness. He resided in the Walbridge Memorial Wing at Pioneers Medical Center.
Glen was born June 21, 1922, in Meeker, Colo. He was the only child of George W. and Florence (Van Cleave) Glasgow. Glen was raised in Meeker, graduating from Rio Blanco County High School with the class of 1940.
On Sept. 25, 1942, Glen enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed as a military police officer in Oahu, Hawaii, until the end of the war.
He returned to his hometown and, on Sept.14, 1947, in Glenwood Springs, Colo., married Mary Gibbons. The couple made their home in Meeker, where Glen was self-employed as a carpenter and general contractor. Many of the homes and businesses in the White River Valley share the mark of Glen’s craftsmanship. Glen was a sportsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and exploring the area. He also enjoyed woodworking projects and doing odd repair jobs for people. You could give him some wood, tell him what you wanted built and he would construct it. He was considered a master carpenter.
Survivors include: his two children, Greg Glasgow and Gayle Stewart and her husband, Theo, all of Meeker; as well as his grandchildren, Ryan and Amy Stewart of Grand Junction.
