Meeker resident Glenn E. Burley died on Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, at the Walbridge Wing in Meeker, Colo. He was 89.
Military honors were presented by the VFW Post No. 4265 and American Legion Post No. 62 at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at Craig Cemetery.
Glenn E. Burley was born the son of Warren Leslie and Minnie Bell (Johnson) Burley on Oct. 8, 1925, in Akron, Colo. He spent his childhood and attended schools in Akron.
During World War II, Glenn honorably served his country with the United States Army. He served in Normandy and at the Battle of the Bulge.
On Sept. 25, 1947, Glenn married the love of his life, Edrie E. Baker, in Yuma, Colo. To this union, three sons were born. The couple resided in Denver for many years before settling and retiring in Meeker in the 1980s. During retirement, Glenn and Edrie enjoyed spending their winters in Phoenix. Glenn and Edrie celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary last fall.
Glenn, a retired sheet metal worker, enjoyed hunting, fishing up river in Meeker, golfing, playing horseshoes and going dancing. He was a member of Sheet Metal Worker Local No. 9 and an active member of the VFW Post No. 9644. More importantly, he was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather.
Glenn is survived by: his wife, Edrie Burley of Meeker; three sons and their wives: Glenn (Cheryl) Burley Jr., Jeffery (Jane) Burley and Bart (Patricia) Burley all of Craig; two granddaughters, Kristy (Brad) King and Scotia (Jerimiah) Pepping, both of Craig; and three grandsons: Shawn, Cole and Eric Burley, all of Craig. He is further survived by four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and one sister.
