Obituary: Hazel Rosenlund

Hazel Gae Rosenlund, 93, a longtime resident of Meeker, Colo., passed away peacefully Oct. 29, 2013.
Hazel was born in Meeker to Flora E. Seaton and John L. Kirkpatrick on June 14, 1920.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hazel was a dedicated business owner, event organizer, professional quilter and genealogist.
She married Clifton F. (Dick) Rosenlund on Nov. 8, 1941, in Gunnison, Utah. They were married for 68 years and sealed in the Manti Temple for time and all eternity on March 17, 1973. Three children were born to this union: Loretta Gae, Gene Clifton and Cheryl Ann.
Hazel was preceded in death by: her husband, C. F. Rosenlund; her daughter, Loretta; both of her parents; her brother, Albert Kirkpatrick; and her grandson, Ivan Coats. She is survived by: her children, Gene (Karla) Rosenlund and Cheryl (David) Coats; her grandchildren, Melissa (John Wolfe), Thurston (Pricilla) Rosenlund, Logan (Trisha) Rosenlund, Jason (Wendy) Coats, Vanessa (Brian Barainca) and Tiffany Coats.; great-grandchildren, Victoria Wittman, Savannah, Truett, Aubrie, Natalia, Gavin Rosenlund and Jaiden Coatsd;d and great-great-great grandson Jackson Wittman.
Our beloved Mother was known for her willingness to be of service in her church, family and community. She always welcomed her friends, neighbors and little ones to her home. She delighted in planning and joining her children and grandchildren in fun activities. Her hands were always busy sewing beautifully designed quilts. She was dedicated to the youth and served until she received a 25-Year Service Award from the Cub Scouts of America.
Hazel loved her family deeply and had a passion for recording family history. She was the director of the LDS Family History Center, where she assisted many families in discovering their ancestry. Part of her community service included working with Greg Berthelson to preserve the history and records of the Meeker community.
When she owned a local Montgomery Ward Store, she was chosen as the “Most Improved Store” by the Montgomery Ward Co. several years in a row.
She was an example of love, faith in Jesus Christ and selfless service and will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Walbridge Wing for their good care of Hazel this past year. We extend a heartfelt thank you to all who visited her and brightened her last days.
