Irene Evans, 91, of Meeker died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at the Walbridge Memorial Wing.
Irene Wilson was born March 3, 1918, in Horse Branch, Ky., one of 13 children born to Estille Eugene and Lula Belle (Whitworth) Wilson. She was raised in rural Kentucky and was united in marriage to Joe Evans; their marriage later ended in divorce. During World War II she worked in a munitions plant doing her part in the war effort.
Mrs. Evans worked as a cook in a nursing home and was a homemaker throughout her life. She lived many years in Bloomington, Ill., and also for a time in California. Her declining health brought her to Meeker to be near her family.
She will long be remembered for her impeccable taste in clothing and jewelry and her love of good chocolate.
Survivors include three children, Barbara (Bob) Sidebottom of Montrose, Joseph (Marilyn) Evans and Bill (Connie) Evans, all of Bloomington, Ill., seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Her parents and all of her siblings have preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Heyworth Cemetery in Heyworth, Ill.
Cochran Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
