James J. Veitch

Montrose resident James J. Veitch passed away Monday, March 12, 2018, at his home in Montrose, Colo. James was 71 years old.
A celebration of life was held at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 15, 2018, at the Turn of the Century Saloon 121 N. Fourth St., Montrose, Colo. Memorial contributions can be made in James’ name to Montrose Suicide Prevention Coalition, P.O. Box 1208 Montrose, Colo., 81402.
James Joseph Veitch was born Feb. 20, 1947, to James J. and Lillie M. (Russell) Veitch in Los Angeles, Calif. James spent his childhood and attended schools in Redondo Beach, Calif., and moved to Lake Isabella, Calif., in his teens, where he attended Kern Valley High School and graduated in 1964.
On Nov. 13, 1963, James married Goldie Deal in Lake Isabella, Calif., and to this union three children were born. James and Goldie moved to Colorado in 1990. The couple later parted ways in 1999 but remained friends. On Feb. 9, 2002, James married Eva Marie Hicks in Delta, Colo. The couple shared 16 years of love and marriage.
James belonged to the Church of the Great Outdoors; where he enjoyed everything the nature had to offer such as fishing, hunting, prospecting, he also enjoyed western history, wood working, writing, poetry, antler crafts, but nothing came close to the love he had for his family and all the time he was able to share with each and every one of them.
James is survived by his adored wife, Eva Veitch; son, Jeffry Veitch (Leta) Montrose, Colo.; daughters, Sandra Veitch, Grand Junction, Colo., and Brandy Giao (Matt) Meeker, Colo.; grandsons Dakota and Justin Giao; and previous wife/friend Goldie Menesini of Reedsport, Ore.
James was preceded in death by his parents.
