James Lynn Sullivan, a long-time resident of the Meeker area, passed away on March 13, 2013.
Mr. Sullivan was born in Hayden, Colo., and attended school in Meeker, graduating from Meeker High School in 1952.
Following his graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego. He married Kathryn Butler in 1954. He attended Colorado State University, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree as well as master’s degree, and for many years taught school in Englewood, Colo., at Sinclair Junior High as well as Englewood High School.
He was integral in the initiation and start up of the Community College of Denver, working as registrar and, ultimately, interim president. He retired in 1992 and resided in the Denver area until his death.
Mr. Sullivan is survived by: his three children, Dr. Lisa Sullivan Sandoval, a podiatrist in the Denver area; Dr. Steven Sullivan, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Oklahoma; and Mary Sullivan, executive producer at WILSONWEST, Inc. in San Francisco; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by: a brother, Frances Sullivan of Meeker; a sister, Jeanette Gruber of Denver; and brother Melvin Sullivan of Craig.
A memorial service will be held at the Sullivan Ranch on the South Fork of the Williams Fork River at 11 a.m. on July 5, 2013.
