After battling health issues, Jim passed away at his Loma home.
Born in Savanna, Ill., Jim moved to Colorado in 1960.
Having worked as a newspaper typesetter, Jim followed his heart and became a rancher, first at DeBeque on Roan Creek, then to other ranches in Western Colorado before making Loma his home.
Jim’s surviving family includes: one brother, Bob (Carol) Uphoff of Morrison, Ill.; his wife, Ellie; children Tim (Chris) Uphoff, Jan (Galen) Valencia, Lyn (Bob) Cordova and Brad (Teri) Uphoff; grandchildren Coe Uphoff, Sunni Valencia, Justin and JC Cordova and Blain and Morgan Uphoff; and seven great-grandchildren.
We all knew
There would come this day
At peace but sorrow
‘Cause Dad passed away.
These last years
Sure took their toll
Lost his strength and body
but not his soul.
Knowing Dad he would say
Please remember me
The way that
I used to be.
Papa worked hard
All his life
To care for us kids
And Ellie, his wife.
With common sense, ingenuity
And some baling wire too
It was truly amazing
What that man could do,
And when it is time
For us to go
We’ll see him
This we know.
Because it wouldn’t be Heaven
Without our loved ones so dear
Until then we’ll cherish
And keep his memory near.
So we say goodbye
The best that we can
To the one we loved
A very special man
