Mary L. Arnold, 77, of Meeker died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at the Walbridge Memorial Wing.
Mary Lou Wappes was born Oct. 27, 1931, in Denver, the daughter of Frederick and Gladys (Dickinson) Wappes. She was raised in the Denver area where she attended school. Following her graduation from high school she attended beauty school.
On Nov. 3, 1949, Mary was united in marriage to Hillis Leroy “Red” Arnold. The couple resided for many years in Brush, where Mary operated the Country Beauty Salon for 20 years.
Thirty-one years ago Red’s career with the Colorado State Patrol brought them to Meeker, where Mary enjoyed quilting, tole painting and the special times spent with her children and grandchildren. Mary had taught a tole painting class for Colorado Northwestern Community College for several years.
Survivors include her three children, Luanne Stromer of Golden, Diane Musser and her husband Kendall and David Arnold and his wife Karen, all of Meeker, eight grandchildren, Christopher, Korie, John, Jason, Katie, Mindy, Ben and Daniel, 14 great-grandchildren, one sister, Margaret McCormick of Estes Park and one brother, Frederick Wappes of Denver.
Her husband, “Red”, has preceded her in death as have her parents and one sister, Thelma Maddox.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, June 2 at the Highland Cemetery. Cochran Memorial Chapels has been entrusted with the arrangements.
