Mason was born in Greenback, Tenn., April 4, 1916. The family left Tennessee when he was 3 years old and settled in the Hayden, Colo., area. He spent most of his childhood there. The family moved to the Rifle, Colo., area when he was a teenager. He married Ethel McDaniel on Dec. 13, 1937. They spent their first winter on Piceance Creek. They lived in Arkansas, Rifle, and Grand Valley (Parachute) before moving to Meeker, Colo., where they spent the rest of their lives. He was a beekeeper for many years and always did carpentry. When he retired they were able to travel a lot with their travel trailer. They were to Alaska several times as well as touring Colorado and several other states. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years; a grandson, Carl; three sisters and six brothers. He is survived by his son Leon (Jeanie) Stout of Meeker and daughter Dorothy McKee of Meeker. Three grandchildren, Earl Stout of Meeker, Preston McKee of Anchorage, Alaska and Susan Clements of Wasilla, Alaska, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
