Opal Cornelia Murray was born Nov. 4, 1914, in Longmont, Colo. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 29, 2014, in Meeker, Colo.
Opal was married to Tom Murray and lived her adult life in Meeker. She had one son, Keith Murray.
She was active in the community and believed strongly in supporting the Meeker community as a whole. She was a business owner in Meeker of the Tom Murray Market. She belonged to the Rainbow Club, Fortnightly Club and was a member of the Buford Community Center.
She had a full life with her family and friends. She witnessed many historic events in her hundred years of life from horse and buggy to having a man land on the moon. She knew of the Internet but decided not to participate.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Tom; her son, Keith; and siblings Jess, Gyle, Donald and Alice McCormick. She is survived by: grandchildren Thomas Dirk Murray, Jonny (Sabine) Murray and Cori Murray; great-grandchildren Lena Aspen Murray Mock, Christine Opal Murray, Sara Marie Murray and Alexis Manuel Murray; and great-great-grandchildren Meara and Torryn Mock.
Graveside services will be held today (July 3, 2014) at 2 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Meeker. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. at Park Avenue Mortuary (517 Park Ave., old Cochran Mortuary) prior to the services. Services are under the direction of the Park Avenue Mortuary.
