Regina Irvin
Aug. 20, 1927 ~ Feb. 7, 2011
Regina Irvin of Brooklyn, N.Y., mother of Donna Wille of Meeker, passed away Feb. 7, 2011. Beloved wife of the late Edward F. Irvin, she was born and lived her entire life in Brooklyn.
Regina became a widow in March 1964, at the age of 36, when her husband passed away at the age of 41 of cancer. She was left alone with 12 children to raise between the ages of two months and 15 years of age.
Her entire life was dedicated to caring for her children while going without for herself. She will be remembered by all as a woman of great strength, love and perseverance.
She loved to dance and listen to her old music; most especially Judy Garland and Wayne Newton. Anytime you went to visit you were sure to find her watching Law and Order, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and of course she never missed Lawrence Welk on Saturday night on TV or looking out her kitchen window at passers-by in the neighborhood of Bay Ridge where she lived.
If anyone deserves peace, it is our mom. She had a life filled with strife and struggle. It’s a shame she never got “woman of the year,” but in all honesty, she deserves “woman of the century.” God gave her tremendous strength — she always needed it to raise 12 children single-handedly. We could write a book!
Regina is survived by her children Leonard, Jacqueline, Steven, Judith, Donna, William, Donald, Michael, Regina, Joyce, her sister Dolores, 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward and two sons, Edward and Arthur.
