Robert L. Mangus
Dec. 26, 1924~Dec. 15, 2008
Surrounded by his loving daughters, Bob Mangus has moved on to his next assignment at the age of 83.
Bob came from a humble background. He was born in Meeker, Colo., to Harry and Gae Mangus. His mother died shortly after birth. He and his two older sisters were then raised by their aunt and uncle in the DeBeque area. After graduating from DeBeque High School he served his country in the U.S. Navy as a radio technician from 1943-1946. In 1952 he began his career with the Colorado Game and Fish working in the Norwood, Gunnison and Craig areas. He retired while living in Browns Park after more than 30 years of service. He continued to work for the Division of Wildlife for several more years. This was the life assignment he was born to do. Bob was a self-made man who loved the outdoor environment and had a passion for all animals. His activities included hunting, fishing, camping and sharing wild stories with family and friends. His handshake was his word.
He is survived by his wife, Luella of Grand Junction, Colo; his children, Gae of Grand Junction, Colo., Toni (Scott) of Meeker, D’Aun of Austin and Coe D. of Logan, Utah; four grandchildren, Travis, Crystal, Wendy and Kory; and three stepsons. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite animal charity. Dad would like that.
A gathering of family and friends, in celebration of Robert’s life was held on Sat., Dec. 20, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel, in Montrose, Colo. Arrangements were under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory of Montrose, Colo.
