Susan Croos
Susan Mary (Ainge) Crook of Battlement Mesa, Colo., died of natural causes on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013.
She was born in Vernal, Utah, on July 5, 1949, to Marba Ellen (Peterson) Ainge and the late Grant Ainge.
Susan was raised in Rangely, Colo., and was the Rangely Days Rodeo Queen in 1965. In 1968, her family moved to Meeker, Colo., where she was graduated from high school. She married Doug Moody and raised two amazing sons and a beautiful daughter. She later married the love of her life, Jerry Crook, on April 2, 1997, at Skull Creek near Dinosaur, Colo.
Susan enjoyed the outdoors; she spent the majority of her life outside searching for arrowheads, hunting, fishing and riding her horses with her family by her side. She spent her childhood years with her father at local cow camps, branding, rodeo grounds and chasing wild horses. She loved being on the ranch, moving cows in the great open spaces. She also spent many family vacations in Yellowstone with her parents and brother. These were some of her most prized memories.
She was a very loving, giving person who affected so many people in such a positive way. She loved horses and dogs and even had a wild pet rabbit.
She was a very independent individual and an incredibly hard worker. She also loved junk food, especially Snoballs, Mounds candy bars and cake frosting, and she would enjoy the occasional bag of Lay’s potato chips.
Susan is survived by her husband, Jerry E. Crook of Battlement Mesa, Colo.; her children: Shawn (Sarah) Moody of Fruita, Co., Wes (Cindy) Moody of Meeker and Julie (Isaac) Larson of Battlement Mesa; her step-daughters: Bobbi (Chuck) Brunson of Grand Junction, Colo., Sherri (Ronnie) Plummer of Rangely, Conni (Kelly) Crook of Denver and Alisa (Jason) Postma; her mother, Marba Ainge of Vernal, Utah, and her brother, Morgan (Vickie) Ainge of Vernal. She also has 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Susan was preceded in death by: her brother, Ronald Grant Ainge; two granddaughters, Mariah Jean and Maranda Sue Moody; and her father, Grant Ainge.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Jensen Ward Chapel in Jensen, Utah.
