Tomie Dale Dillashaw was born to Thomas and Alice (Cummings) Dillashaw on Sept. 8, 1940, in Regina, N.M.
Tomie attended school in New Mexico and later went on to be a volunteer firefighter and an oil field worker. Although he was proud of the work he had done in New Mexico, Tomie moved to Arizona to help his brother in the motel business. Following his time spent in Arizona, Tomie found himself in Colorado with his brother who was a painter at the time and a sister who already resided there.
Tomie had an insatiable love for music and was known to have an abundance of CDs ranging from rock and roll to country classics. He also enjoyed woodworking, refinishing old furniture and was always up for a good game of pool or poker. Tomie was a playful soul known for his humorous and mischievous attitude. He loved to pick on people and expected nothing less in return.
Tomie was an extremely hard-working man who took great pride in what he did, including taking care of those he loved. He was notorious for taking people under his wing and incorporating them into his family.
There is a phenomenal legacy that Tomie leaves behind in the lives he touched, between his relatives and those he called his own.
Tomie passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction following a lengthy illness.
Tomie is preceded in death by: his parents; his sisters, Robbie and Creola; a brother, Gene; and his son, Bronc Dillashaw.
He survived by: his significant other, Gladys Williams; son Travis Dillashaw; grandsons Tristan, B.J., Tyler and Wesley Dillashaw; granddaughter Senjinka Dillashaw; his sister, Becky; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Friday, April 29, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Meeker. Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society in care of Grant Mortuary.
