October incidents increase a dramatic 30.4 percent over ’07

RBC — The combined incidents during October 2008 for the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office and the Meeker Police Department rose dramatically, with a 30.4 percent increase, compared to October 2007.
Total incidents received through the communications center increased to 1,141 in October 2008, up from 875 in October 2007. The number of calls for service remained the same for the sheriff’s office with 301 incidents in October 2007 and October 2008. The number of traffic stops increased from 326 in October 2007 to 459 in October 2008 for the sheriff’s office. The Meeker P.D. responded to 250 calls for service during October 2008, up from 156 in October 2007. Traffic stops also increased for the Meeker P.D. with 91 stops in October 2008, up from 37 in October 2007.
Activity for both agencies includes these most notable classifications: 550 traffic stops; 56 VIN inspections; 53 animal calls; 38 suspicious incidents; 28 incidents assisting the Colorado State Patrol; 28 traffic complaints; 26 motorist assists; 26 warrant arrests; 25 traffic arrests; 21 accidents with property damage; 18 civil situations; 17 DUI’s; 16 citizen assists; 16 disturbances; 14 thefts; 10 search and rescues; six criminal mischief cases; six fires; six juvenile problems; six trespass cases; six truancies; four hit and run accidents; four assaults; four domestic violence cases; three fraud cases; three narcotics cases; three restraining order violations; two injury accidents; two burglaries; two weapons violation cases; one fatal accident; one automobile theft; one child abuse case; one harassment case; one probation violation and one sexual assault.
The Rio Blanco County Detention Center continued to operate at high capacity during October 2008 housing an average daily inmate population of 18.68 inmates, with 18.03 males and 0.65 females, slightly down from the September 2008 census. However, bookings increased in October 2008 with 98 people processed in the detention center. Of the 98 people processed, 76 were jailed and 22 were booked and released. With the slight decrease in inmate population, the number of meals served by the detention center also decreased slightly to 1,502 meals served, down from 1,624 meals served in September 2008.
The civil/records division of the sheriff’s office also reported that $10,711.70 in traffic citation revenue was collected during September 2008.
