MEEKER I Meeker Police Chief Bob Hervey presented Meeker Police Officer Gardner Mendenhall with a letter of recognition and lifesaving award at the June 21 town council meeting.
Hervey said Mendenhall responded to the scene of a serious automobile accident April 8 and used his paramedic and officer training to save the life of Bradi Bland.
Chief Hervey stated, “It is only due to Mendenhall that Bradi is alive today.”
Russ Overton then provided an update on the Eighth Street water project.
“We’re between 1,200 and 1,300 feet of a 2,900 foot job,” Overton said.
Town administrator Scott Meszaros added the town has had mixed success notifying residents of water shut-offs via Facebook and reverse 911 calls.
Marla Coats of Colorado CPA Services presented a 60-plus-page audit report that ultimately found “nothing materially wrong” with the town’s finances in 2015.
A request from the Meeker Chamber of Commerce and Rio Blanco County to use Ute Park as a campground for the upcoming Wagon Wheel OHV Rendezvous was also approved. The park will be used only if all other local campgrounds are full and will have strict rules as well as a $25 fee.
The request segued into a discussion regarding the overall use of Ute Park, with all agreeing that a more user-friendly plan for the park would be wise.
Other business included approving disbursements, waiving two permit fees for the Meeker Sanitation District’s new warehouse and a second street sewer line project, and approving a special liquor license for Smoking River Studio Arts.
