DINOSAUR (AP) — Authorities have identified a boy who drowned while rafting on the Green River as 8-year-old Owen Gerson.
The Moffat County sheriff’s office says Owen and his family were part of a commercial whitewater rafting trip in the Dinosaur National Monument on Sunday. He and his father were paddling an inflatable kayak through a rapid when it overturned, sending them into the water.
A raft in the group picked up the father, but the boy was not found until about 90 minutes later submerged against a rock.
Owen and his father were wearing life jackets and helmets. The boy’s hometown wasn’t released.
