DINOSAUR I On Monday afternoon, Highway 40 was closed in both directions approximately 8 miles east of Dinosaur in response to an officers-involved shooting incident that left a man dead.
A Moffat County press release stated that on Monday at 2:18 p.m., Colorado Parks and Wildlife officer Nathan Martinez of Rangely and a Moffat County sheriff’s deputy were involved in an incident with two subjects after the officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle off the road.
The release stated that evidence indicates the suspects briefly took the officers hostage but that neither the deputy nor the CPW officer sustained serious injury.
The male suspect was fatally shot and the female suspect is in custody, the release states.
The name of the deceased man has not been released yet, but the women has been identified as 43-year-old Georgie Hand, no hometown given.
The district attorney’s office said the incident is being investigated by the Critical Incident Team from the 14th Judicial District.
Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.
