Small towns have big hearts
Small towns are filled with big hearts, and Meeker is no exception. One business that has epitomized that persona for many years, both in word and deed, is The Bakery.
While The Bakery is known throughout Meeker as the place for the best breakfast, it is what Enid, Dave, and Zina do outside the shop that is truly remarkable. Their personal contributions to Meeker’s students, have ranged from collecting and distributing school supplies to those in need, providing nutritious snacks for classrooms, organizing and fundraising for a safe after-prom party, donating baked goods for school events, and purchasing warm winter apparel, to personally handing this school secretary cash so every child in our school had the opportunity to “shop” at the annual book fair. Their kindness and generosity is never publicized or boastful, and is done with complete regard to maintaining each student’s privacy and dignity.
While the economy has changed, The Bakery’s hospitality has not. Aside from filling your soul with a daily dose of wisdom and humility as provided by their “quote of the day,” The Bakery is one of the last places you can fill your belly without breaking your bank. They will provide a filling and delicious breakfast or lunch, for both those who can pay and for those who cannot. It is not uncommon to hear “put it on my tab” when you know full well that some tabs may never be paid.
It is this continuous and gracious dedication to the well-being of this community that makes The Bakery a prime example of one family business whose sole purpose is to provide for others. Their commitment should be recognized, and it is with complete confidence that Meeker Elementary School extends this nomination to The Bakery as one business that truly cares.
