Pair of car shows will give auto enthusiasts plenty of chances to drool over classic chassis

Organizers hope the weather will cooperate for this year’s Septemberfest Car Show on Monday.
Organizers hope the weather will cooperate for this year’s Septemberfest Car Show on Monday.
RANGELY I Gentleman, start your engines. OK, don’t start them, but park ’em so they can be admired.
There will be a lot of admiring going on during the two car shows that are part of the Septemberfest celebration.
On Saturday, there will be the Rangely Racers Car Show at Hefley Park, on the west edge of town, near Blue Mountain Inn and Suites.
“Right now, we’re thinking we might do it at the park, where there are more trees,” said local drag racer Ed Miller, one of the organizers. “We’re pretty sure it will be at the park, or it will be at 510 East Main (site of last year’s Saturday car show).
“We had 26 cars show up last year, which was a pretty big deal considering they were all race cars; there were no street cars,” Miller said.
Free hot dogs and soda will be served at the Rangely Racers Car Show. There will also be a drag race simulator with a practice starting line tree.
Other organizers of the Saturday car show are Jeremy Ahrens, Jerry LeBleu and Wade Rusher.
On Monday, then, is the annual Septemberfest Car Show, which will again take place at Elks Park, as part of the Labor Day activities.
“This will be our 13th year, and we’ve only been rained on twice, so our odds are pretty good,” LeBleu said.
It rained pretty much the entire time last year during the Septemberfest Car Show.
“Anything will be better than last year,” LeBleu said. “It never let up. If the weather is good, we’ll probably see 50 or 60 cars again, which is normal. Last year, we only had about 20 cars (because of the weather).”
The car show is scheduled to start at 10 a.m, but “actually we go from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.,” LeBleu said.
The cost to enter the show is $20 for the first car, $10 after that.
“We’re expecting some new cars,” LeBleu said. “And we’re bringing in a show semi. We’ve got eight to 10 cars coming from Wyoming, and the bulk come from Utah.”
LeBleu said the Septemberfest Car Show has a good reputation among car enthusiasts.
“It’s a fun show,” he said. “The women can go to the craft fair (also going on in Elks Park) and the they can go to the barbecue. People we talk to say it’s one of the most fun shows they go to.”
Now, they just need Mother Nature to do her part.
