RANGELY I The Rangely High School boys’ basketball team had an exciting week last week, winning two of three of their games, building momentum going into another big weekend.
Rangely traveled to Meeker Tuesday night for a game that was absolutely as good as it gets in high school sports. Both teams are young, and played hard for all 32 minutes. The effort on both ends of the floor was exciting to watch and the last second shot from Kaulan Brady won the game for the Panthers.
The ball was still in the air when the buzzer sounded, and the high-arching shot went through the basket.
Brady led all scores for Rangely with 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the game. Patrick Scoggins had 18 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Kobe Broom and Brennan Noyes both added seven points and Mikey Shepherd had four points.
Coach Kyle Boydstun said, “I was proud of our effort on both ends of the floor. I’m especially happy for Kaulan Brady. Hitting a buzzer-beater is a special moment for any player.”
The team traveled to Baggs, Wyo., on Friday and seemed a little sluggish after their big game Tuesday, falling behind a solid Little Snake River Team.
The Panthers ended up losing the game 20-53.
Rangely bounced back on Saturday and played an outstanding game against Plateau Valley, beating them 75-60.
Rangely came out with great tempo and outscored the Cowboys 15-12 in the first period, then dominated the second period, scoring 20 points while holding Plateau Valley to just 10. The team never looked back at that point and maintained great defensive pressure.
Brennen Noyes led all scorers with 22 points followed by Patrick Scoggins with 19, Kobe Broome with 16, Austin Ficken with eight, Kaulan Brady had five and Mikey Shepherd and Deven Ramirez each added two. The team was well balanced with great offensive efficiency.
The Rangely Panthers travel to Cedaredge Friday and then to Hotchkiss Saturday.
