RANGELY | The Panther football team visited the Soroco Rams for a game this past Friday. The Panthers had horrible rainy conditions but battled through after an hour lightning delay. The Panthers played hard and never gave up the fight, losing 38-12.
“The score was not indicative of the actual game,” said head coach Paul Fortunato. The Rams had a few big plays and the Panthers had eight turnovers and several penalties that didn’t help the cause.
“There are a lot of small fixes to make as we move forward but the guys are playing hard and physical,” Fortunato said.
Touchdowns were scored by Anthony Lujan and AJ Lujan. Notable defensive players for the night were Lane Gillard and Riley Boydstun who made their presence known on the defensive line.
The Panthers have the two-time defending state champs coming to town this weekend.
“Please come out and support your Rangely Panthers,” Fortunato said.
Junior varsity had a great day Monday defeating the Plateau Valley Cowboys 46-0.
“We had outstanding performances on both sides of the ball for all the Panthers,” Fortunato said.
Justin Rusher and Anthony Lujan had multiple touchdowns and Rusher, AJ Garner and Doug Dennison added several extra points along with a Tristan Moore touchdown. Defensively Austin Davis, Dalton Dembowski, Caden Dowlen and Gabe Polley excelled. Our young classes are having a great start to their season starting out 2-0.
