RANGELY I The Rangely Panthers headed to the Demon Invite in Glenwood Springs this past weekend with more than 800 other athletes. It is one of the biggest meets the Panthers will see until the state meet.
“It was a well-run meet and the athletes might not have placed as well as they would have liked but many had new personal records and pushed hard during the meet,” said head coach Beth Scoggins.
The Panthers only had three freshmen competing this weekend: Zoey Peck, Chloe Filfred and Tytus Coombs. Peck competed in the 200-meter dash with a new personal record of 30.92, the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:15.11, the long jump with a distance of 11 feet 7 inches. Filfred ran the 100 dash with a time of 18.90 and the 800-meter with a new personal record of 3:25.71. Coombs competed in the long jump with a jump of 15-8.75. He also was a member of the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
For the sophomore class Rangely had Breanna Davis, Raelynn Norman, Mackenze Cochrane, Riley Boydstun and Marshall Webber competing. Davis was able to reach a new personal record in the shot put with a throw of 32-6 to place sixth. In the discus she threw for a distance of 69-2. She also was in the weighman’s girls’ relay. Norman ran the 400 dash with a time of 1:16.14 and the 3200-meter run placing fifth place with a time of 15:01.32. Cochrane ran the 100 dash with a time of 14.92, threw the discus for 79-3 and shot for 30-7, and helped on the weighman’s girls’ relay. Boydstun threw the shot for 30-0 and discus for 94-10. Webber ran the 110 high hurdles in 18.17, the 300 hurdles in 45.08 and started the 4×100 relay.
The junior class was represented by Patrick Scoggins, Austin Ficken, Cameron Filfred and Miekka Peck. Scoggins was able to take fifth in the 400 dash with a time of 51.70, ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.79 and anchored the 4×400 relay. Ficken anchored the 4×100, threw the shot with 41-5 placing eighth and discus for 111-5. Filfred threw the shot for 33-8 and discus for 88-4. Peck was able to set a new personal record of 27-0 in shot and threw the discus for 81-6.
Senior Troy Allred competed in the high jump for the first time clearing 5-4.5, and ran the 100 dash with a time of 12.65. He also started the 4×400. Senior David Fox also gave high jump a try and was able to clear 5-6.5, he long jumped 17-3 for a new personal record and helped out the 4×100 and 4×400.
The 4×400 relay set a new personal record with a time of 3:43.60 taking eighth place. Unfortunately, the 4×100 was disqualified but they would have set a new personal record. The girls put together a weighman’s relay made up of Miekka Peck, Makayla Filfred, Breanna Davis and Makenze Cochrane. There was no time but they took fifth overall.
The Panthers will be hosting the Rangely Invitational this Saturday, April 22. Come out and cheer for them, there will be some good competition.
