Panthers compete in windy conditions

“It was super windy, which made it so most times and distances, even if very good, were considered wind-aided and will not count for state rankings,” Rangely High School track coach Cody Brunton said of the weather conditions and results for his team in the Clint Wells Invitational Track Meet in Craig on Friday. “Obviously, that was a bummer, but we did have some good things happen though,” he said.
Rangely senior Aimee Hogan won the 400 meter dash with a personal best time of 1:02.92 and placed third in the 200.
Junior Colt Allred won both the shot put and discus in Craig after winning both events the week before on his hometown field. He set a personal best in Craig in the discus with a throw of 139-7.5, ranking him in the top 18 in 2A. Allred is also one of the top 10 shot putters in 2A and he triple jumped for the first time in Craig.
Allred’s cousin Ethan placed second in the 800 meters and Mitchell Webber placed fourth in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.
Rangely’s 4×800 boys’ relay team, consisting of David Fox, Braxton Bishop, Anthony Martin and Daniel Connor, also had a fourth-place finish.
“We’re hoping for better weather Saturday in West Grand,” Coach Brunton said. “This is our last meet before regionals, so we are hoping to really have some good times and distances to take us into the post season.”
