Panthers drop v-ball opener

RANGELY — On Tuesday Rangely’s Lady Panthers opened up the first game of the season against Altamont, Utah.
At times the Panthers played well and other times were not their most shining moments. It was a great learning experience. During the match the Panthers missed a total of 19 serves and that’s what cost them the game.
The team ended up losing in five games.
Victoria Phelan led the Panthers in kills with 12, followed by Dakota Kenney with seven.
On Saturday the Panthers hosted their first league game against Vail Mountain. I was proud of the way the girls reacted to their mistakes and improved over the past game. I think the girls have done a nice job adjusting to the changes that I have made and our getting into the swing of things.
Phelan led the team in kills followed by Meagan Piering. Kenney led the team in digs with 14, and she did an excellent job reading the ball and passing.
Heather Wanstedt’s serving was great scoring 14 points — most of which came in game three.
This weekend the Panthers travel to Simla, Colo., for a tournament that should offer some really good competition.
