MEEKER — The Rangely Panther Football team traveled to Aspen to enjoy their nice turf football field. Unfortunately, that was the only thing the Panthers were able to enjoy.
Aspen out-muscled Rangely all night long. They were the league champions at the 2A division last year but they graduated 17 seniors from that team.
The Panthers were hoping to compete and play with the Skiers, but that was not the case. Rangely gained only 73 yards on the evening to Aspens 274 and lost the contest 48-6.
Highlights for the Panthers included a touchdown pass from Kanden Brady to Ron Urie of 14 yards. Being out from football for the past two years, Ron Urie, senior transfer, was excited to get his first high school touchdown. Other highlights came from special teams under the direction of coach Mike Cushman. Clark Worrall had a nice 39-yard kickoff return up the middle. Clark is junior who has moved up to starting corner and done an excellent job. Kindal Cushman did a great job punting throughout the game with a long punt of 43 yards.
The Panthers still have two more non-league contests. Rangely will host 2A Coal Ridge Friday starting at 7 p.m. and then will play host to Grand Junction JV on Thursday, Sept. 18, starting at 6 p.m. Come out and support the Panthers.
