RANGELY I Friday will be the last football game for Rangely’s senior players.
It will also be the last chance for them to win a game this season.
The Panthers, 0-8, will play their final game Friday at home against Paonia. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Yaeger Stadium. Senior players and their parents will be honored.
One of those seniors will be Cole Barlow, who has been a standout for the Panthers all season.
“He played another good game defensively,” coach Tim Galloway said of Barlow. “He was all over the place with tackles.”
The Panthers, though, couldn’t overcome a 20-0 halftime deficit last week against Lake County at Leadville, losing 26-8.
“Again, we didn’t play well in the first quarter, which is something all year long we’ve struggled with,” Galloway said. “We came out flat. I don’t know if it was the trip or what. We weren’t quite ready to play and they were, and that made all the difference in the world.”
Rangely outscored Lake County 8-6 in the second half. The Panthers’ lone score came on a 45-yard pass from Kody Denny to Tobie Gasper. Denny threw to Chas Byerly for the two-point conversion.
Not that the Panthers didn’t have other scoring chances.
“We had three or four opportunities inside the 20 and couldn’t close the deal,” Galloway said.
He’s hoping the Panthers will finish the deal Friday against Paonia.
“We’re gonna try,” Galloway said.
