RANGELY | The Rangely girls tipped off the Manila, Utah, Holiday Tournament on Friday against Manila.
“We got off to a good start ending the first quarter up 10-6, and then went complacent. We just got relaxed and quit attacking the basket and found ourselves down 13-20 at half,” said head coach Jimmie Mergelman. “The third quarter was much the same. We ended up losing by the score of 28-39.”
Skylar Thacker finished with 13 points, Hannah Wilkie with five, Marlena Miller with four, Cochrane three, Wiley two and Kacie Lapp with one point.
The Panthers played Intermountain Christian School out of Salt Lake on Saturday.
“We played better and attacked the rim,” Mergelman said.
Thacker finished with 19 points and 9 rebounds, and “did a great job of leading.” Wilkie finished with seven points and six rebounds, followed by Cochrane with six points and nine rebounds, Lapp finished with nine rebounds also and five points. Wiley added three and Miller added two points. The last game of the weekend was against Green River, Utah. The Panthers came out on top with a score of 42-15. Thacker finished with 16, Wilkie with 10, Lapp five, Cochrane and Miller with four each, Wiley added two and Adelynn Halcomb had one point.
The lady Panthers will be back after break with a home opener against Hayden on Saturday, Jan. 5 starting at 1 p.m.
