RANGELY I The Rangely Panthers only played one match this past weekend against the Soroco Rams and now prepare for a big homecoming weekend against two tough league opponents: Paonia and Vail Mountain.
“This week was one of those gut check matches,” coach Dennis Rohn said of his team, as they were down two games and rallied back to win the next two before falling short in the fifth game. “I am proud of these girls in that they didn’t give up. Due to the loss of key individuals, I had to put young ladies in positions that they had never played at a varsity level or some have never played in the position before.”
The team seemed nervous in their new positions but showed great composure to come back in games three and four.
“The team needs to get back to having fun.” Rohn said. He was quick to point out “I believe so much in this team as a whole.”
The team was led by Brittany Babineaux and Aimee Hogan with 21 and 23 points respectively, and Babineaux added 13 kills in the match. Quincy Thacker added six kills, followed by Shelby Nieberger with five. Enterline led in a new statistic for her with 18 assists, and Leslie Hernandez added 6 assists and 14 points. Thacker led the defense with 17 blocks, followed by Babineaux with 13.
The team endured great deal of change in their rotations and look to find their spark for the upcoming weekend. The girls will work hard and prepare with their new lineup this week in practice and hope to come out firing on all cylinders for their home crowd.
